Again I haven't posted anything for a while, so rather than continue to add to the overly long grab bag post that I never finish, I am just back dating a few smaller ones. Recently it has been hard to figure out anything to say that I want people from Google, people from Pomona, people from high school, my brothers and sisters, and about five ex-girlfriends to all read. Generally those people would see very different sides of yours truly.
The 10th Halloween party was a hit. By this metric I am more popular now than I ever was in the last six years in Los Angeles, although probably not more popular than in college. "Watching Mikey wear the proverbial lampshade" even made Steve's Official Work Record that week.
That was Saturday; on Halloween itself Google provides its own party. This was ok, but honestly, I have found every company-provided social event to be depressing. They just remind me how invisible I am in the ocean of interchangeable pasty white nerds. I will likely not go to the Christmas party or ski trip, barring unforeseen and unlikely developments.
Oh yeah, the new house is a tremendous improvement. It is next to a busy street, across from a fire station, a block from the train tracks, and right in the flight path for the Moffett airfield. This means that, so far, I can make as much noise as I damn well want. There have been a couple of nights when the music was really unreasonably loud at really unreasonable hours and it hasn't bothered anybody.
That soulless yuppie life coffin was making me more unhappy than I realized until I was gone. I had serious doubts about it from the beginning (remember?) but I also had two helpers that talked me into moving in there, both of whom had conflicts of interest. Another plus about the new house: no jackass parasite with a suntan and a rented Audi pocketed a thousand bucks of kickbacks and Google's wasted money to put me here.
