I am running a little subversive library out of my house these days. Like everything else I have ever been successful at, this was an accident. Mostly because the easiest way for me to get books is to have Amazon two-day-ship them to my office. The library hours are not convenient, and for some reason at some indistinct point in the past, I decided I don't like going to the Border's. So these books pile up in my house until people borrow them or I give them away.
This might be why, when some of my more unpredictable friends wanted to make and burn a model Parliament building on Guy Fawkes day, they decided to do it at my house. As you can see, it made a fire that was somewhat bigger than I really meant to have in my backyard. Fortunately, it didn't hurt anything.
Tuesday, Nancy came and we went to American Gangster. This was pretty good and I would recommend it, especially if you like The Wire.
Wednesday, Jenny and Soo made a project of cooking supper at my house. After that, we watched Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters, which was, sadly, pretty stupid. It's not just that a funny 15 minute episode makes a dumb 2 hour movie; the bigger problem is that I don't think there was a funny 15 minutes anywhere in the two hours. Oh well.
Thursday, we reconvened the old poker group because Matt's girlfriend is out of town, as is Adam's wife (Beth). I haven't played in a long time, because I was only ever willing to play for amounts of money that do not matter, and that game escalated to much larger amounts some months ago.
Friday, I went to Palo Alto on a little outing arranged by Kacirek and his girlfriend, Christine. Kacirek (first name Mike, which causes obvious problems, which is why we call me Mikey and him Kacirek) sits next to me at work since he transferred into my group a couple months ago. I will have to tell you about him some time.
Saturday was the end of the kickball season, which means there is a tournament and a party. My team won its first and only game. They always make me feel wanted when I show up, and they notice when I don't. Yet none of them came to the Halloween party. It is what it is, I suppose.
Today I went to shabu shabu with Soo. I talk too much when given half a chance. I do seem to keep pretty busy for somebody that always complains about having nothing to do, though.

The latest breathless Google hype in the New York Times doesn't seem to have any basis in reality. If the numbers they quote for an "average" stock grant in November 2006 are correct, then almost everybody I know is far below average. And I don't know who said that it's not Googley to check the stock price, but that's horse shit. Ask anybody I know, on any day of the week, and he can tell you the price at last close. And we discuss it plenty. Plus, I smack people in the face who walk around using "Googley" in every third sentence as a synonym for "something I like." All right not really. But I would like to.
